Research Collaboration
Interested in getting involved in the research efforts of the RHC to help runners and other race participants stay healthy? See the opportunities below:
Level 1: Recruiter
This is for races, running clubs, and other organizations that want to help recruit participants for the study but aren’t necessarily interested in their race/club’s data. Recruitment can be done through emails to race registrants, newsletters, and social media (email/material below). Email RHC@hsc.utah.edu to have a custom study registration page created to track recruitment. The efforts will be acknowledged on the RunHealthy website.
Recruitment Email for Race Organizers
Level 2: Insider Info
This is for race organizers who want to see the results from the participants they help recruit and how they compare to others throughout the country, but aren’t interested in presenting or publishing the data. The results can help race organizers better understand the experience of their participants and guide their educational content, such as on training advice. Email RHC@hsc.utah.edu to have a custom study registration page created to track recruitment. The minimum recruitment goal is 50 subjects. The efforts will also be acknowledged on the RunHealthy website.
Level 3: Collaborative Investigator (Affiliated with a Race)
This is for race medical teams who want to collaborate with the RHC investigators to analyze and publish the results from their race. They can submit a short study proposal to RHC@hsc.utah.edu with a recruitment plan, a unique/focused research question that can be answered using the data from their race, and a presentation/publication plan. The data codebook is available below. The RHC team can run the analysis and the race medical team can do the write-up, presentation, and publication. IRB approval is covered through the RHC. The minimum recruitment goal is 100 subjects.
[NOT YET AVAILABLE] Level 4: Collaborative Investigator (Unaffiliated with a Race)
Once sufficient data has been collected (anticipated Spring 2025), researchers not affiliated with a race or running club will have the opportunity to collaborate with the RHC investigators to analyze and publish data. They can submit a short study proposal with a unique/focused research question that can be answered using RHC data and a presentation/publication plan. The RHC team can run the analysis and the researcher can do the write-up, presentation, and publication. IRB approval is covered through the RHC. Proposal acceptance may be limited depending on the capacity of the RHC team.
[NOT YET AVAILABLE] Level 5: Independent Investigator
Once sufficient data has been collected (anticipated Spring 2025), researchers can request de-identified data to perform independent analysis in collaboration with the RHC investigators. They can submit a study proposal specifying the research question, data needed, and presentation/publication plan. This will require a data use agreement and a separate IRB.
